WORKSHOP: Nature And Animal Symbolism In Dreams And Imagery

C.G. Jung has said: "Man feels himself isolated in the cosmos, because he is no longer involved with nature, and has lost his emotional 'unconscious identity' with natural phenomena". This seems to me to be very true of modern people. Feelings of isolation are frequently brought into psychotherapy and stress, exhaustion, depletion to both medical practitioners and psychotherapists. Stress related illnesses have become like an epidemic and often the sufferers intuitively know that they need restorative periods in nature to recover.
Like our ancestors, we need the natural world and are part of it. Our separation and alienation has been damaging to us and to the environment. In our dreams, however, we find that nature still plays a far larger part than in our waking lives. At a soul level the animals still have power and they appear to us as messengers and as guides, while the sun, moon, mountain and river continue to be glowing living forces that provide the context for our individual life story. I offer the hypothesis that the images in our dreams and imagery are calling us to reconnect to our instinctual self and thus find our healing.

For this workshop please bring your own or your client's dreams and images. We will use these to explore the power and energy of the natural world and our spiritual connection to it. Sea, river, forest, desert, the night sky and so on each has its own voice that speaks to us if we learn to listen. We will practice deep listening and curb our intellectual analysing and out of this constellations and creativity may arise.
