| Is therapy effective? Is it good value for money? How does
it work, and whats the evidence for it? How quickly can reliable progress
be achieved? From a transpersonal perspective, we can understand and maybe dismiss these questions as expressions of a one-dimensional ego stance which fails to grasp the mystery of the therapeutic process. However, many of our clients do come to us with such misconceptions, and we are then called to engage more deeply with them. As therapists we inevitably operate within a paradigm clash which is as old as the field itself, reaching all the way back to Freud. It is a clash that is currently politically charged, fundamental to the future of our profession and as polarised as ever. This workshop offers an opportunity to find for yourself both theoretically and practically - a third position from which we can work with this clash as we would with any other split in the psyche: by embracing the conflict and following it until a deeper wholeness emerges. |

| Michael Soth is an integral-relational
Body Psychotherapist, trainer and supervisor (UKCP), living in Oxford, UK.
Over the last 20 years he has been teaching on a variety of counselling
and therapy training courses, alongside working as Training Director at
the Chiron Centre for Body Psychotherapy. Inheriting concepts, values and ways of working from both psychoanalytic and humanistic traditions, he is interested in the therapeutic relationship as a bodymind process between two people who are both wounded and whole. In his work and teaching, he integrates a wide range of psychotherapeutic approaches, including transpersonal perspectives (e.g. Jungian & archetypal). He has written numerous articles and is a frequent presenter at conferences. Extracts from his published writing (including several book chapters) as well as summaries of presentations are available at www.soth.co.uk. He is currently organising a training for leaders and group facilitators, called The Communitas Project. |
